A Joyful Beginning to Lifelong Learning

About San Francisco Arts and Science Academy

At the San Francisco Arts and Science Academy (ASA), we believe the early years should be filled with curiosity, creativity, and joyful discovery. Our TK–5 program helps children build confidence, strong learning habits, and a love of learning in a structured and nurturing environment.

Through strong academics, traditional arts education, and character development, we guide students to grow both intellectually and personally as they begin their lifelong learning journey.

Mission and Vision

ASA provides TK–5 students with a strong foundation in the arts, language, math, and science, fostering creativity, curiosity, and character development. Our bilingual, hands-on curriculum blends academic rigor with artistry, inspiring a lifelong love for learning, a commitment to universal values, and an appreciation for beauty.

The ASA Philosophy: The Complete Mind

At ASA, we believe that truth, beauty, and goodness are essential to a child’s education. Through rigorous academics, beauty through the classical arts, and character formation, we nurture young people who are prepared not only for success, but for a meaningful life.

“To develop a complete mind, study the science of art and the art of science.” — Leonardo da Vinci

Our approach is rooted in three timeless ideals:

Truth — The Mind

Students develop strong academic foundations and learn to think logically, question thoughtfully, and understand the world with clarity.

Beauty — The Arts

Through music, dance, and visual art, students cultivate sensitivity, creativity, and an appreciation for what is meaningful and well-made.

Goodness — Character

We guide students to develop responsibility, respect, and integrity—habits that shape strong individuals and future leaders., responsibility, kindness, and leadership

Part of the HSArts Community

ASA is part of the San Francisco High School of the Arts (HSArts), a nationally recognized program known for its integration of rigorous academics and pre-professional arts training.

Our elementary program is thoughtfully designed to prepare students for this next level—building the foundation early so that students can grow with confidence and purpose.

A Message from the Founder

Sixteen years ago, a small group of parents came together with a shared dream: to create a school where children could grow not only in academic excellence, but also in character, artistry, creativity, and joy. As a scientist, entrepreneur, educator, and parent, I came to believe that true education must nurture the whole child. Academic achievement is important, but so are the qualities that shape a meaningful life—discipline, resilience, curiosity, kindness, confidence, and a sense of purpose. Over the years, I witnessed the transformative power of the arts. Through disciplined training in dance, music, and visual art, students developed focus, perseverance, self-confidence, and an appreciation for beauty. I saw this not only in the students of San Francisco High School of the Arts, but also in my own son, who began dancing at the age of four and grew into a confident, hardworking young man who thrived both artistically and academically. That vision gave birth to San Francisco High School of the Arts. Today, it continues through ASA. ASA was created to provide children with a strong beginning—combining rigorous academics, beauty through the classical arts, bilingual language development, and character formation in a nurturing environment. We believe that children flourish when they are challenged intellectually, inspired by beauty, and guided by strong values. Our goal is not simply to prepare children for academic success, but to cultivate thoughtful, disciplined, kind, creative, and confident young people who will positively contribute to their communities and the world. Thank you for considering ASA for your family. We would be honored to be part of your child’s educational journey.
